Diablo games in order
This list presents the Diablo games in story order, which matches release order except for Diablo Immortal, set between Diablo II and Diablo III. Dates use the in-world calendar, Anno Kehjistani, with the first game beginning around 1263.
I · 1258–1263 · The Darkening of Tristram
Diablo (1996)
Diablo: Hellfire (1997)
In 1258–1263, King Leoric rules Tristram while Diablo, imprisoned beneath the cathedral, corrupts Archbishop Lazarus and possesses Prince Albrecht. Aidan, Leoric's elder son, descends into Hell, kills the possessed Albrecht, and drives Diablo's soulstone into his own forehead to contain the demon.

Diablo II (2000)
Lord of Destruction (2001) · Diablo II: Resurrected (remaster) (2021) · Reign of the Warlock (2026)
Diablo overcomes Aidan, now the Dark Wanderer, who travels east to free his brothers Baal and Mephisto. Heroes pursue him, killing Mephisto and Diablo, and in the expansion defeat Baal, who sought to corrupt the Worldstone, leading Tyrael to destroy it.
III · c. 1270–1275 · Between the Worldstone's fall and the End of Days
Diablo Immortal (2022)
Fragments of the shattered Worldstone spread across Sanctuary, and Deckard Cain and a hero known as the Shard-seeker hunt them. The demon Skarn tries to use the fragments to resurrect Diablo, but Diablo's soul returns and is defeated at the World's Crown, after which Andariel seizes Lut Gholein.
IV · 1285–1286 · The End of Days
Diablo III (2012)
Reaper of Souls (2014) · Rise of the Necromancer (2017)
Tyrael falls as the Fallen Star, Deckard Cain dies at the hands of Maghda, and the Nephalem hero hunts Belial and Azmodan while Adria gathers the Great Evils' essences. Adria betrays them, Diablo is reborn as the Prime Evil and storms the High Heavens, where the Nephalem defeats him; in the expansion, Malthael steals the Black Soulstone and is defeated in Westmarch.
V · 1336–1337 · The Age of Hatred
Diablo IV (2023)
Vessel of Hatred (2024) · Lord of Hatred (2026)
Lilith is summoned by Elias, and the Wanderer pursues her with Lorath, Donan, and Neyrelle while Inarius leads the Cathedral of Light. Inarius invades Hell and is killed by Lilith, the Wanderer defeats Lilith, and Neyrelle seals Mephisto, who had guided them as the Bloodied Wolf. In the expansions, Mephisto escapes and is finally defeated with Lilith's essence, while a prophecy foretells the return of Diablo and Baal.
Remasters and class additions
Diablo II: Resurrected (2021) is a remaster of Diablo II and its expansion, and Reign of the Warlock (2026) adds a new class; both retell the same story. Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer (2017) adds the Necromancer class without altering the narrative.
